Introducing Miss M Photography!

How did Miss M Photography come to be?
My journey into photography started when my son was born – I always loved taking photos and capturing natural and un-posed images. Since then, photography has been my ‘happy place’ and allowed me to cope with the stress and tragedy experienced in my career as a police officer. I would often pick up my camera and take photos of anything that was happy… families, kids, whale watching tours, my dogs, flowers, the beach, carnivals, festivals or my own kids.

I started my business a few years ago and really just ran it as a hobby business because it was purely something I loved to do. I kept getting bookings and I was ‘hounded’ to start shooting weddings and so my partner Grant and I started photographing weddings last year. We both work so well together and we just click (pun intended!). He can read my hand signals from a mile away when I am asking him to bring me a particular lens or get a specific shot.

We advertised in January 2015 that we were going to start photographing weddings and had 6 weddings booked before we knew it!
What do you love most about being a professional wedding photographer?
I am such a romantic… I love that there is so much love and happiness surrounding the wedding day. From the moment I have my first meeting with my brides and grooms, there is just this happy energy surrounding the two people who are planning their ‘happy-ever-afters’.

Wedding photography is intense because it’s so important that we capture the images the client has asked for. I love that we have had clients who are willing to entrust us to photograph their special day.

It’s incredibly important to me to capture natural and beautiful pictures as they happen. I love that I can provide a service to brides and grooms so that I can just turn up on the day, do my job, and they can walk away with gorgeous, artistic and heartfelt images.

What is the most important thing for brides to remember on their wedding day from a photographer’s perspective?

To just enjoy the day and relax. I have photographed weddings where I have been with the bride all day long, and they just can’t believe how quickly the day goes by.

The message I try to get across to my brides is that after the wedding day, after all the dancing and eating and speeches and when everyone has gone home, you will walk away with two things – a husband and your wedding photos! It’s so important to hire someone you trust and someone who can deliver!

I also think it’s vital that the bride and groom trust their photographer and that there is chemistry between them because in all seriousness, at the end of the day the photographer is going to be like a second shadow, and if you can’t get along or take instruction and directions from your photographer, then it may jeopardise your whole experience and the photos you require.

Why should local brides choose you? What are your strengths and what makes you different to the competition?

I think my strengths are that I can get the job done. I am a person who just gets in and does what is needed! 17 years as a police officer has taught me a thing or two about communication and dealing with people! My personality is bubbly and cheerful and I do what is needed to get the images my clients require. No job is ever too big for me.

I am confident that I can produce elegant, and beautiful images that capture your story – so that you can share these images with the most important people in your life. I am a very relaxed photographer and confident I can share the story of my clients’ journey.

Explain where you are located and are you happy to travel?
I currently reside in the Bundaberg area. I have photographed weddings overseas (Noumea), on the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg area, Hervey Bay and Fraser Island. I have also photographed weddings on the Sunshine Coast and I am willing to travel for weddings.

What are the details of your packages?
I offer 4 packages at present, with the Liebe and Amore packages being my most popular. The beauty of these two packages is that clients receive an engagement session, USB containing all images provided, a beautiful professionally designed and created wedding album (14×10), loose and framed prints, and a minimum of 400 images on a custom made USB stick with no watermarks or logos.

All couples receive a print release which allows them to print their images wherever they like.

We trust you loved getting to know Sharon from Miss M Photography as much as we did! Head on over to her website to see more of her beautiful work and to get in touch for any upcoming shoots!

We wanted to take the opportunity today to celebrate Carissa from Capture the Moment, one of our vendors and regularly featured photographers as she recently represented Central Queensland at The Australian Bridal Industry Academy (ABIA) awards. The ABIA awards are acknowledged throughout Australia as a means of determining the best wedding industry professionals and businesses. This was only Carissa’s second year at the awards – in her first year she remarkably took out 3rd place but this year she was voted #1 in Queensland!

A grand total of 6,585 Queensland couples (representing 1 in every 4 Queensland marriages) selected 509 nominees, 311 finalists and 36 winners for the categories of venues, photographers, beauty stylists and a variety of other wedding industry professions.

The Chairman of ABIA, Mr John O’ Meara congratulated Capture the Moment as the Winner of the ABIA award for the photography category. Mr O’ Meara went onto say that it was businesses like Capture the Moment which enhanced and enriched the industry, through their tireless pursuit of excellence in designing the dream for each and every one of their unique wedding couples. We would have to agree with him and spoke with Carissa to ‘capture’ some insight into the big night and her extraordinary win. Congratulations Carissa, we are so thrilled for you and proud of your achievements! It has been a pleasure over the past few years following along with your journey, to see your work grow in beauty, finesse and emotiveness.

Tell us about your big win with ABIA!
Omg! My big win! What can I say, it was so very overwhelming! Last year was my first year with ABIA and I was placed top 3 with a result of 99.86%, so to win in my second year is a huge achievement for sure! I was rated this year 99.9%, I was incredibly thrilled, but also terrified because that meant I had to stand up in front of 200+ of the wedding industry’s best including a room full of photographers that deserved this title as much as myself.  I am far from a public speaker, so let me just say if I am lucky enough to win again I best improve on my thank you’s!

This award was based on quality of service, product and value for money. It represents quality, integrity and credibility and could only be voted for by my bridal couples for who I am so grateful for – I seriously have the most beautiful couples that make my job so very easy!  I love my job!

I am excited to put Rockhampton on the map nationally within the wedding industry.

Tell us a little more about you, what’s your story and how did you come to be a photographer?
I’ve always had a creative side. Not in an art form of painting or drawing but growing up I was heavily involved with dance and theatre. Photography never entered my mind until 2010. I was sitting editing images thinking ‘what is it I want to do? It dawned on me that I was already doing it! I was addicted to taking photos of my 3 sons. I just wanted to capture every single moment because everyday they were getting bigger. When their sports kicked in I started taking action shots for all the kids and providing them with images for end of season awards presentation. I also actively videoed and edited all of the games and birthdays and Christmases and so it progressed from there.  My eldest son is turning 21 in a couple of weeks! I am (and so is he) grateful that we have these beautiful albums to look back on!

My first wedding – beautiful dear friends of ours whom married at Bargara on the beach had asked me to photograph their wedding, and the rest is history! I now photograph 20-25 weddings per year and in addition focus on glamour and boudoir which I absolutely love. I love the opportunity to show women what I see – how beautiful they are!

An all time favourite Capture The Moment wedding

What do you love most about being a professional wedding photographer?
I think my business name says it all! Whilst it may sound cliché, I believe it is true to its meaning. Yes I love creating all the pretty images but, it is the fleeting moments in-between the guided poses that I truly love to capture.

The Capture The Moment Experience
I would like to think I’m a pretty easy person to get along with. I’m not sure if the words ‘laidback’ and ‘perfectionist’ go in the same sentence but that is me.

I only take up to 20 weddings per year so as to give my bridal couples the complete attention they deserve. I book out 12 months in advance.

I am a natural light wedding photographer with a love of sun flare and moody skies!
My images are modern, romantic and sugary sweet!
My style is free and candid with a blend of simple guided posing.

Then, when I arrive back at the office, my creative processing has become an extension of my art allowing me to heighten mood and ambiance. It’s this creative styling that I enjoy especially when I can create a wow factor!

Capture The Moment wedding collections start at $3,500 and Carissa is available for destination weddings.

Carissa’s Thank You Speech

“First and foremost, a massive thank you to ABIA and their amazing team giving us all here the chance to showcase our passion within the wedding industry. And to all the amazing photographers here – this could have been anyone’s, so much talent and passion in this very room!

To my amazing husband and three sons for putting up with all the ‘girly’ things that weddings entail. And trust me, they put up with a lot – they are my life!

To my seriously supportive parents who bought my first pro-camera and are sitting by the phone way up in the gulf waiting for this news!

And most importantly to my gorgeous bridal couples! Their overwhelming support is the reason I’m here tonight and I’m ever so grateful. I love my job! I know my business name is cliché but it is true to its full meaning. Yes I love creating all the pretty images but what I love most is capturing the moments of love in stills to treasure forever!

Thank you.”

One of the many things we love about Carissa is her heart for giving back. Capture The Moment proudly supports breast cancer survivors and fighters. Carissa donates two complimentary boudoir/glamour shoots per year. Do you know someone that needs to be reminded how beautiful she is?
