Newlywed Bliss! Decorating Your First Home Together

One of the greatest joys of newlywed life is creating a home together. Decorating your new home, whether purchased or rented is an exciting time to incorporate both of your styles, but choosing the right pieces of furniture can also be a little overwhelming! When Jonny and I first started planning our new home together we were only thinking about style, but after assessing our newlywed budget our decisions changed slightly. Ultimately we wanted pieces that were stylish, long-lasting and affordable. After a lot of looking around both online and in-store we were really impressed with the ranges coming through from Super Amart.

What if you both already own furniture?
Combining your furniture with your partner’s can be one of the biggest challenges to setting the theme for your new home together. They say marriage is all about compromise though, right? Decide together what can be kept for your home, and what can be replaced or added to. If you are planning on totally replacing larger pieces like lounges and dining tables, then you will want to shop together to make sure you both like the new style. Set a budget before-hand too, so that when something pretty catches your eye you don’t end up making a poor financial decision!

Think long-term
They might be completely on trend now but if you’re planning on having children in the next few years will a white linen lounge really hold-up to spills and little hands?

A robust dining table might be a wiser choice than a dainty, easy-to-scratch piece!

To make a wise financial decision for your long-term, you may want to also consider purchasing pieces that will last for many years, if not decades. A high quality dining room table, in a neutral style will last for a long time especially if your style changes. Neutral colours and wood are often ideal for pieces that won’t date.

Rooms to focus on
If you’re decorating a whole home from scratch and aren’t sure where to start or how to allocate your budget, think about the rooms that you will spend the most time in. If your lifestyle is mostly spent around the living room watching TV then a comfortable durable lounge is important. However, if you’re too busy for TV and spend more time outdoors with friends then a nice outdoor setting will need to move higher on the list.

Final tips
Measure your rooms before you go shopping to be sure you are getting something that fits properly – you don’t want oversized pieces to make the room feel cramped or undersized pieces that leave your spaces feeling empty and incomplete!

Kylie and Liam’s Capricorn Resort Homestead Wedding

I remember when I first saw pictures of Kylie and Liam’s day because I was immediately taken with Kylie’s oh-so-divine dress! Clearly having an eye for detail, she also chose an incredible backdrop for their wedding day, the beautiful Capricorn Resort Yeppoon – one of our favourites around here! Big hugs to Carissa from Capture The Moment Photography for sharing this gorgeous day with us all!
